What is PVAC ?

Co-organized by the University of Geneva (UNIGE), the Qatar University  in Doha (for the English session), and the Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Dakar (for the French session), the Polio Advanced Course in Vaccinology (PVAC) seeks to foster a new generation of thought leaders in Polio and strengthen decision-making in immunization policies.

PVAC is a dynamic, specialized 5-day training program aimed at re-engaging health professionals and key stakeholders, reinforcing the global priority of Polio eradication, and enhancing the effectiveness of surveillance and response systems. Held biannually, the course offers two tailored sessions:

  • One session for English-speaking participants from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East
  • One session for French-speaking participants from Francophone Africa

Each session is customized to address regional needs, with particular attention to the Polio status (whether endemic or outbreak-prone) in these areas.

With a 360° approach, PVAC enables participants to gain an in-depth understanding of key topics related to polio vaccinology, including immunology, vaccine development, regulatory processes, specific vaccine-related issues (including next-generation vaccines), vaccination strategies, health policies, and effective communication—particularly in crisis situations.
